In with the In Crowd:

Andy Warhol Links recommended by Gary Comenas

Andy Warhol Links (2025)

Two of my favourite links from the early days are still around:

The Velvet Underground Web Page

The Velvet Underground Web Page title banner.

I came across Olivier Landemaine's site soon after I started mine. I'm surprised but delighted that it is still there. His last modification was at the end of 2024 so presumably he will continue doing updates in 2025. The best source of information on or off the net about The Velvet Underground. Online since 1996.

Andy Warhol Films Newspaper Ads

Gerard Malanga, Andy Warhol and John Cale in Bachelor magazine

Bachelor Magazine, Vol 9 No.3 June, 1968 (Note that John Cale is wrongly identified as the avant-garde classical composer John Cage.)

Great repository of Warhol film ads, articles and published interviews assembled by Alfredo GarcĂa. Good research tool for dating film premieres and his trips to promote the films. Also includes quirky '60s articles like the one above from Bachelor Magazine. Plus classic articles like the Gretchen Berg interview with Andy Warhol that was later exposed by Matt Wrbican as just one of many articles in which Warhol didn't say what he is quoted as saying in the exh. cat. Andy Warhol: A Guide to 706 Items in 2 Hours 56 Minutes. (I moderated a superstar evening with Mary Woronov, Bibbe Hansen and Holly Woodlawn in conjunction with the exhibition in London. gc)

Other links from the past:

An interview with Viva's daughter

Transferred from the original Links page, 16 year old actress Gaby Hoffman talks about her mother, Andy Warhol superstar Viva Hoffman.

Studio 54 Timeline

A one page timeline from years ago that includes both busts and Steve Rubell's death at Beth Israel.

And the first personal Warhol site I came across on the net:

Warhol.dk

John Fogde's site on 20 May 2000

No longer online, the "sitemaster" was a 25 year old student named John Fogde - then a "5th year student at the department of Information and Media Science at Aarhus University in Denmark."

It began in 1996. This is what it looked like on 31 March 2005 and when it ended on 1 April 2006. (Before social media overwhelmed copyright restrictions that still apply in the world of print.)

Michael Smith's sites

Michael was a Caffe Cino playwright and director, and the lover of lighting maestro and Warhol star Johnny Dodd (Batman Dracula, Dance Movie, Haircut no. 2, Haircut No. 3, and Kiss) as well as the theatre columnist for the Village Voice (Both Michael and Johnny Dodd ended up marrying women. Later, Dodd sadly died of AIDS.)

Michael has published some very interesting books under the imprint of Fast Books over the years (including The Real World by me) and also keeps a blog and poetry site. One of the last stalwarts of the '60s - a wealth of fascinating material:

Other sites of interest

The Estate of Billy Name

Billy was the absolute best. Includes Press, Videos, Exhibitions and Licensing information in regard to his photographs. More on Billy in Warholstars at: Billy Name.

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts

Publishers of the (indispensable) Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonné: Paintings, Sculptures, and Drawings. Information about licensing, sales, grants and the current Board Members and Directors, past and present. The cat. rais. is the most extensive, best designed cat. rais. that I have come across for any artist.

Waverly Press

Publishers of Warhol-related books such as Bibbe Hansen's Factory Poems.

Artifacts

New site of interviews by Steven Watson of Warhol-related stars, gender-bending icons and a great interview with the junkie who has gone down in history as the person who turned William Burroughs on to smack - Herbert Huncke.

Bibbe.com

Bibbe Hansen's site. Last updated in 2023, but has a useful biography and press history.

Dennis Cooper's Blog

Current location of Dennis Cooper's regularly updated blog site - his previous site was banned.

To be continued - This page will grow over time. Check back regularly.
